It was supposed to be different.
Fintechs promised us:
✅ innovation,
✅ speed,
✅ flexibility,
✅ freedom,
✅ a future beyond traditional banks.
But today they’ve become pathological.
❌ Accounts closed without warning
❌ Funds frozen without legal basis
❌ Accusations with no evidence
❌ No contact, just algorithms
❌ “AML” used as a universal excuse
You’re not a criminal.
You’re not a fraudster.
You’re not a risk to society.
You’re a creator. A writer. A digital citizen.
You run a campaign, a blog, a project.
And then, one day:
“Your account has been terminated.
Funds might be returned in 30 days.
Or not.”
No explanation. No process. No humanity.
One example? bunq.
Account closed for vague reasons
Funds locked without any legal notice
Communication: cut off
The official reason: “activity that may pose a risk to others”
Based on: Article 10.1 of their Terms (the classic “we can do what we want” clause)
How many more victims will there be before this practice is challenged?
This isn’t next-gen banking.
It’s abuse wrapped in colorful UX.
Fintechs with zero accountability are a silent threat.
They look sleek, they talk fast but when something happens:
There is no human to speak to
There is no procedure
There is no answer
Only your money, locked behind a wall of legalese and indifference.
🤔 But here’s the real question:
What’s the point of opening such accounts?
If you can lose access to your own money at any time?
If the bank becomes your judge and executioner?
If an algorithm silently decides you’re a threat with no right to respond?
Is this progress?
Or just a digital dictatorship in financial form?
We don’t have bank accounts anymore.
We have conditional access.
You can use your funds…
…until you post a blog.
…until you receive a “suspicious” transfer.
…until someone, somewhere, flags you in a system.
And then?
“Due to security reasons, we can’t provide further details.”
“Please understand this is for your protection.”
“Goodbye.”
So no, this is not just about one case.
This is about the system.
Unless these companies are held accountable,
every new user is just another frozen account waiting to happen.
**#bunqcase is not a complaint.
It’s a warning.**
This blog will document what others try to erase.
And we’ll speak for those who were silenced one case at a time.
