bunq presents itself as the bank of the future.
“The Bank of The Free.” Freedom. Flexibility. No bureaucracy. No unnecessary questions.
Sounds perfect?
Too perfect.
Because the moment you actually start using your account for its intended purpose-bunq shuts you down.
✅ What I did:
From the beginning, I was fully transparent. I told bunq exactly how I planned to use the account: to receive support related to my investigative blog,to pay for ads and tools tied to publishing,to operate legally and openly, with full traceability.
No hidden transactions.
No grey areas.
No AML violations.
No games.
Just honest, creative work and full disclosure.
❌ What bunq did:
– Flagged my account (again) using their automated system.
– Had a human review it-likely without reading a single message I’d sent.
– Closed the account without warning.
– Froze all my funds.
– Gave no explanation. No email. No call. No option to respond.
❓So why have an account at all?
What’s the point of a “Bank of The Free” if: – You don’t know when you’ll be cut off,
– You can’t trust that transparency will protect you,
– You’re blocked without warning or recourse?
That’s not banking.
That’s not security.
That’s not freedom.
It’s a risk disguised as convenience.
An AI system making decisions it shouldn’t and a human blindly confirming it.
⚠️ A warning to anyone reading this:
Each new day could be the day your account gets blocked without any prior notice.
Without explanation. Without appeal. And with no access to your own money.
Your funds-no matter how essential-can be locked for a minimum of 30 days.
No real support. Just automated messages.
No flexibility. No empathy.
And all of this from a company that claims to be the future of banking.
💬 Ask yourself:
What kind of “freedom” is that?
And how long until you’re the next one locked out?
This isn’t innovation. This is financial captivity.
